NPP Day 31 – I’m done!!

It’s a momentous day. I’ve finally gone through ALL of my nail polish! All I really need to do now is make one final sweep for dupes/sub-par polishes, and then my task will be complete! And just in time to pack it all up in a box and move it to my new apartment, too.

Onto the polishes.

NPP Days 26-29: One giant mega-post

ALRIGHT, so I’ve been absent a few days. We’re moving in exactly one week and I’ve been in a constant state of freakout for an entire week. I want to pack, but we’re not getting boxes until thursday (sidenote, if you’re looking for an alternative to cardboard moving boxes, try bungo box if they’re available in your city).

Anyway, I took a look at how many untested polishes were still in my box and decided there was no way I was gonna get that all done in time before they needed to be packed up to move to my new place. So I’ve been testing an ABSURD amount of polish. At this rate, I’ll be done Monday, just in time to make one final pass for dupes (more on that later) and then pack everything up into a nice, safe cardboard box for the harrowing 17 minute drive to my new place.

As usual, the testing of polishes is easy. Getting it up on this blog? Not so easy. Here are a bunch of polishes that I’ve tested over the past few days.

NPP Day 15: Roses

So I’ve been pretty bad at posting to a schedule. Painting my nails everyday is easy, but taking the time to sit down and write the blog post has been a real struggle. Here’s yesterday’s polish situation. Spoiler alert: I”m keeping all of these.

day 15 polish 3

OPI Liquid Sand in Jinx

Once again, I love  the liquid sand from OPI. It’s a great gimmicky polish and it wears well. I’ll be keeping this.

day 15 polish 2

Sinful Colors in Rich in Heart

This is a good color and a solid formula. I’ll be keeping this, but I’m going to try to use it up so I don’t have so many mini-bottles laying around.

day 15 polish 1

OPI in My Pal Joey

I obviously bought this because it was hello kitty. The color’s great, and it’s the usual solid OPI formula.

Here’s the look:

NPP Day 6: Spring has sprung

Even though it’s felt like summer since february here in Dallas, I’ve suddenly been in a springy mood. Today’s polish reflected that.

day 6 polish 1

Sinful Colors in Violets are Blue

Sinful Colors really needs to up its game, apparently. This polish was still somewhat translucent and patchy after three coats, so I wasn’t really a fan. The color is GORGEOUS, however, so this is going in the “maybe” pile, and I’ll get rid of it if I find a similar color in my collection.

day 6 polish 2

Covergirl glosstinis in Purple Freeze

Honestly, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this polish. It’s just the exact same color as one of the sinful colors polishes I posted the other day, which I like better. You really need two coats of this polish, while you can get away with one with the sinful colors. I’ll be getting rid of this.

day 6 comparison

The sinful colors polish on the left, covergirl on the right. VERY close dupes.

day 6 polish 3

ORLY in Cotton Candy

While I’m not the hugest fan of ORLY’s formula, this is a nice pink. You have to apply it really carefully or else it can be a little patchy, but the opacity is pretty nice, and I don’t usually have problems with chipping with ORLY polish. This is a keeper.

And the finished look. Pretty simple, once again. You can see how the blue sinful colors polish is a little patchy.

day 6

Well, that’s another polish gone from the collection.

NPP Day 5: Kind of a disaster

Today’s polish picks were definitely interesting. Going off of yesterday (and the fact that I have no plans to leave the house today), I really wanted to pick some polishes that I hadn’t used in a while and looked suspiciously bad. Honestly, I was kind of surprised. Here are the polishes:

day 5 polish 1

No-name M polish

Here’s where it gets surprising. I picked this because it was a random red nail polish without a name, and I figured it would be an easy pick to get rid of. I was wrong. This applied really well, and I could either apply one coat for a semi-translucent (not patchy!) look, or two coats for an opaque look. It dried quickly and cleaned up easily. Overall, this was great.

day 5 polish 2

Sinful Colors in All About You

This, on the other hand, was garbage. To be fair, it was about half empty. The glitter was just a gloopy consistency and it wasn’t applying well at all.

day 5 polish 3

NYC Sheer French Manicure Enamel in String of Pearls

Honestly, I didn’t test this the way I should have. I just don’t have a need for it for its intended purpose because If I want a french manicure, I’ll just pay someone to do it for me. That’s one of the only times I’ll get a manicure, in all honestly. As a base, it honestly looks pretty gross and I have better white polishes. This one’s not going back on the rack.

And here’s the (pretty bad) look:

day 5

Like I mentioned above, the glitter was gloopy AS HELL, and the sheer white polish just isn’t my cup of tea. That red polish is amazing, though. SO glossy, even without a top coat. It’s definitely one of my rediscovered favorites.

So, two more polishes gone from the collection today. That’s definitely a victory.

NPP (Late) Day 4: Magnetic Overload

Sorry for the late post! I actually had everything shot and ready to go, and then my laptop charger was mysteriously missing. It’s been located and now I’m ready to go again.

So, day 4. After the first magnetic polish test, I decided I’d be best off to just test them all out at once and make my picks from there. Here are the polishes in question:

day 4 polish

From left to right: Nails inc in Whitehall, Sally Hansen in Graphite Gravity, Sally Hansen in Ionic Indigo, and Sinful Colors in Polar Opposites

And here’s the look:

day 4

Sinful colors on the thumb and pinky, Sally Hansen on the index and ring, Nails Inc on the middle finger.

The verdict:

Nails inc: I’m keeping this one for sure. The teal color is really pretty on its own, and it responded really well to the magnet

Sally Hansen: I’m keeping Ionic Indigo, but getting rid of Graphite Gravity. GG just didn’t perform as well, for some reason. It wasn’t as responsive to the magnet unless I PILED it on, at which point it didn’t dry well. II performed really well and the color was great.

Sinful Colors: This was a miss for me. I wasn’t a fan of the starburst design magnet it came with, and although it looked a little bit nicer if I used one of the squiggle magnets from the other polishes, the formula was just really lacking for me. It took at least three coats to really look nice, and the glitter was a little distracting. Plus, I really don’t need THREE blue magnetic polishes.

Well, at least this is finally ramping up and I’ve found some stuff I’m not a huge fan of. Hopefully this keeps going in this direction.

NPP Day 3: Some favorites

So, today’s kind of a cheat day. I had an event to go to for Influenster (blog post to follow!) so I decided to not take any risks and knock three polishes out of the way that I know and love.

day 3 polish 1

Sinful Colors polish in Mad About Hue

day 3 polish 2

ORLY polish in Gumdrop

day 3 polish 3

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Green with Envy

And here’s the finished look:

day 3

2 Coats of each polish, with a topcoat. There’s a little section on the blue nail that’s a little more transparent than the rest, but I didn’t catch it until I had applied my topcoat. Definitely user error as opposed to an issue with the polish.

Anyway, all three of these are going back on the rack. That’s all for today.
